My Latest Picture....

On Sept. 30th I was involved in a bad traffic accident. This was the worst of my injuries.
The ankle was broken and the heel was shattered and a Titanium plate, 7 screws, and 2 pins were put in.
The white space in the center of the plate is where bone and cartiledge SHOULD be.
If you look at the heel, you can see where the intial pins were put in and removed.
To date I have had 4 surgeries on my foot with I am sure a couple more to follow.

Update: Feb 2003

Stupid foot! The surgical site has been very stubborn in regards to healing and the last surgery was done to remove the hardware that was installed in surgery #3. Also done at the time were pathology results of bone and surrounding tissue. It would seem I have a lovely case of Osteomylitis, and the Cipro and Keflex I have been on for the past month will not kill it.

Next step is to have a PICC line put in and be put on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. I will be doing all the infusions myself at home after being taught by a Home Care Nurse, doesn't this sound like fun! NOT!

Update: April 2003

PICC came out! WooHoo!! Not soon enough for me. Physical Thearpy is starting now for the next 8 weeks. Will feel good to be out of this wheel chair!

Update: Oct 2004

Two more surgeries....It would seem a bad Mammogram has come into my life. I am Scheduled for an Excisional Biopsy on Oct 28th. Also the ankle has not improved. I am Scheduled for a Subtalor Fusion on Nov. 4th and hopefully this will be the last surgery! At least I can hope!

Update: Nov 2003

Well the Cancer scare is over. The Biopsy showed a Fat Necrosis due to trauma to the Breast. Basically this is fat cell death, and it was from the accident, namely the seat belt. Damn I'm sick of what this accident has done to my life!

Update: March 2004

Well the fusion is a bust! I have several mal-unions, and very little hope for being able to live a normal life. I am now in Pain Management from the severe nerve damage and Neuromas I have. Surgical options a very few, and outcomes not good. It has been decided that amputating the leg is my best option at this point. It is scheduled for April 30th 19 mos to the day since this started, I will post more after the proceedure.
